Tokyo court released former Nissan boss Ghosn on bail

Carlos Ghosn left prison on bail of 1bn yen (£6.8m; $8.9m) after a Tokyo court ordered his release in a surprise decision.

Earlier, police arrested him on charges of financial misconduct and intensified breach of trust on 19 November. However, Mr. Ghosn denied the offenses against him.

The court rejected all previous requests for bail.  His extended imprisonment has further brought international criticism on Japan’s criminal justice system.

According to reports, 64-year-old Carlos Ghosn left the detention center surrounded by guards. Moreover, the court granted him bail on strict conditions including video surveillance and amount of 1bn yen (£6.8m; $8.9m).

French Finance Minister Bruno Le Maire further told the media: “Carlos Ghosn is being released. He is a French citizen. He will be able to defend himself with greater ease.”
